Dr. Affronti has been involved in studies to investigate how endoscopic ultrasonography may influence patient outcome for various GI disorders. Past projects have included surveying all of the physicians who perform this procedure in the United States.

Other interests include extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. Dr. Affronti has completed a number of in vitro research projects. He has used extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy to treat pancreatic duct stones and common bile duct stones which are refractory to endoscopic therapy.

In addition to the above activities, Dr. Affronti has founded and directed the Biliary/Pancreatic Health services at Emory University in Atlanta, Loyola University of Chicago, and The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and was involved with many clinical investigations as a member of those groups. His administrative activities have also included Director of Endoscopy at University of Florida-Jacksonville and Emory University, Director of Advanced Endoscopy at Loyola University of Chicago and Medical College of Georgia as well as Clincal Chief of Gastroenterology at Emory University. In addition he was asked to be Acting Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Divisions at University of Florida-Jacksonville and Tulane University in New Orleans.
